CD8 (cluster of differentiation 8) is a cell surface glycoprotein, found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes. CD8 antigen is existed as a homodimer composed of two alpha chains or as a heterodimer composed of one alpha and one beta chain. CD8+ cytotoxic T cells are crucial for the killing of virus-infected cells and tumor cells.
