Mitochondria‑mediated apoptosis is the primary cause of cardiomyocyte death. Therefore, mitochondria are a key target for treating myocardial injury. Mitochondrial calcium uniporter regulator 1 (MCUR1)‑mediated mitochondrial calcium homeostasis markedly promotes cell proliferation and resistance to apoptosis.
