Histone 2B ubiquitination (H2Bub) and trimethylation of H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4me3) are associated with transcription activation. However, the function of these modifications in transcription in plants remains largely unknown. Here, we report that coordination of H2Bub and H3K4me3 deposition with the binding of the RNA polymerase-associated factor VERNALIZATION INDEPENDENCE2 (VIP2) to FLOWERING LOCUS C (FLC) modulates flowering time in Arabidopsis.
