Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are activated by inflammatory mediators to secrete extracellular matrix for collagen deposition, leading to liver fibrosis. Ferroptosis is iron- and lipid hydroperoxide-dependent programmed cell death, which has recently been targeted for inhibiting liver fibrogenic processes.
