Cyanobacteria, ubiquitous oxygenic photosynthetic bacteria, interact with the environment and their surrounding microbiome through the secretion of a variety of small molecules and proteins. The release of these compounds is mediated by sophisticated multiprotein complexes, also known as secretion systems.
