Cellodextrin phosphorylase (CDP) plays a key role in energy-efficient cellulose metabolism of anaerobic bacteria by catalyzing phosphorolysis of cellodextrin to produce cellobiose and glucose 1-phosphate, which can be utilized for glycolysis without consumption of additional ATP.
