Hantavirus causes two types of acute diseases: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. It is a major health concern due to its high mortality and lack of effective treatment. Type I interferon treatment has been suggested to be effective against hantavirus when treated in advance.
