Tissue regeneration requires scaffolds that exhibit mechanical properties similar to the tissues to be replaced while allowing cell infiltration and extracellular matrix production. Ideally, the scaffolds' porous architecture and physico-chemical properties can be precisely defined to address regenerative needs.
