Proteinaceous nanoparticles represent attractive antigen carriers for vaccination as their size and repetitive antigen displays that mimic most viral particles enable efficient immune processing. However, these nanocarriers are often unable to stimulate efficiently the innate immune system, requiring coadministration with adjuvants to promote long-lasting protective immunity.
